Prop Scan E4 software is a Windows based package that collects and processes data from the measuring assembly allowing accurate assessment of damaged propellers and certified verification of new and repaired propellers.
Prop Scan E4 produces Compare to Mean line & bar graph reports. These reports clearly describe the measured propeller's features, including form, consistency and variations measured at specific points on each blade of the propeller as defined by the ISO 484 International Standards.
Areas on the propeller identified with problems can then be corrected. These propeller corrections result in increased boat speed, reduced fuel consumption, elimination of propeller vibration, propeller synchronization and correct engine loading.
As propeller manufacturers will not divulge the design of their propellers, Prop Scan contains a feature that has evolved from Prop Scan's heavy involvement in the inspection of Navy propellers.
Prop Scan's ability of converting Navy engineering design drawings to electronic design curves has been reversed engineered allowing Prop Scan to create electronic design curves that simulates the design of orphaned (no design available) propellers.
A propeller is measured and a 'trace' of the measurement is converted into a design. This means you can buy a new propeller, measure the propeller, create a design trace then save it on your computer as the design of that propeller. If the propeller is later damaged the propeller can easily be repaired to the 'as new' state.
Additionally this original design trace can be altered and manipulated to remove manufacturing or design faults, so as the propeller can be further enhanced resulting in boat performance in excess of the manufacturers claims.
Prop Scan E4 saves the design trace in 'Design Curve Series' (DCS) format. A DCS design can be re-sized, modified, re-shaped and improved and then applied to propellers of any size, rotation or style as a DCS design automatically resizes and applies itself to the chosen propeller.
The unique DCS design concept has been developed for those who want the most advanced facilities to measure, report and guide you through the repair and modification of propellers especially where propeller design is crucial.
The Prop Scan Reporting System Software Features:
The Line Graph displays, for
each measured section:
- A Line Graph plotting each
degree the pressure face
- The mean pitch of each blade
- The mean pitch of the section
- The blade angle from leading
edge to trailing edge
When design is selected
- The section design pitch.
- A Line Graph plotting the design
of the pressure face
- A tolerance band indicating the
design limits of the section
The Line Graph report displays the pressure face of the propeller section from leading edge to trailing edge. The green line (blade 1) shows the irregularities of the blade face at .7 radius. The blue line represents blade two, the red line blade three and the pink line blade number 4.
The example on the above right displays the above features and more.
The Bar Graph displays in graphical form:
- The pitch of each blade
- The mean pitch of each section
- The allowable tolerance of each section
- The pass rating
- The mean pitch of each blade
- The allowable tolerance of each blade
- The mean pitch of the propeller
- The allowable tolerance of the propeller
Blade one is shown as green, blade two blue, and three red. The design mean is shown as a pink line. The yellow doted line indicates the allowable tolerance for ISO 484 Class S.
A Condition Report is used to identify and record the original condition of a propeller prior to repair, modification or optimization.
This report identifies the propellers abnormalities and presents a basis to estimate the cost of reworking the propeller up to the required quality standard and design.
A Prop Scan Quality Certificate presents a final report on the condition of the measured propeller in accordance with the ISO 484 International Standards and Prop Scan Enhanced Propeller Standards. The report highlights the ISO 'Class' of the measured propeller showing the areas of conformance along with the Prop Scan EPS conformance to the selected design.
The Condition Report and Quality Certificate are presented to the customer and a copy is held on file.
The Prop Scan Enhanced Propeller Standards (Prop Scan EPS) have been added to Prop Scan E4 Reporting System to compliment the ISO 484 International Standards providing a further means of controlling propeller quality and increasing propeller performance.
Prop Scan EPS Class 0 has been added to the ISO 484 International Standards. This Class is half of ISO 484 Class S and is called Extremely High Accuracy. This means Prop Scan E4 can inspect propellers to a standard with twice the precision of ISO 484's highest standard.
Prop Scan EPS Face Camber controls the camber of the pressure face of the propeller. This feature was developed to suit combat Navy propellers. When applied to performance propellers or cambered propellers noticeable propeller efficiency gains are evident. See Note below.
With Prop Scan leading the world in computerized propeller inspection the developers of Prop Scan have been involved with engineers representing the pinnacle in the propeller business and have worked on many extremely technical and challenging projects.
One of these challenges was to develop an electronic equivalent of the US Navy's much respected cylindrical gauge method of manual propeller inspection.
The Prop Scan developers not only electronically duplicated the cylindrical gauge they provided a method of applying tolerances to the electronic cylindrical gauge concept. This inspection feature called EPS Face Camber has been included in Prop Scan EPS
